Scots researchers discover kids inherit intelligence from mums, not dads

Children inherit intelligence from their mother, according to new research from leading Scots scientists.

Multiple studies have shown the intelligence comes from the X chromosome.

Women carry (XX) chromosomes while men cary (XY) - meaning a child is twice as likely to have inherited their smartnesss from their mother over their father.

Research from Medical Research Council Social and Public Health Sciences Unit in Glasgow, also backs these findings revealing that a child's IQ tends to come from their mother.

Researchers interviewed kids every year from the ages of 14-22, taking into account various factors like education and socio-economic status, the Mirror reports.

However there is good news for dads as not all scientists agree on the X chromosome principle.

Some researchers say environment is just as important as genetics in determining a child's level of intelligence.

According to Psychology Spot it's estimated that 40-60 percent of intelligence is hereditary - the rest comes from our environment.
