Scots puppy blinded after 'freak garden accident' leaving owner devastated

A Scots puppy owner has spoken of her devastation after her beloved pooch has been left blind in one eye due to a 'freak accident'.

Seven-month-old Springer Spaniel Teazal, was impaled in the eye by a branch while playing in the family garden last Friday leaving her with a horror injury.

Owner Catherine Walker rushed the distressed animal to Kidd Veterinary Centre in Forfar for emergency treatment.

The 53-year-old had been playing with the dog at her home in Glen Clova when Teazal suddenly ran into the branch.

Now the poor dog has been left blind in one eye, and vets are warning Catherine she could lose her eye altogether if the swelling doesn't go down.

Catherine told the Daily Record: “She ran into a branch, it was a freak accident unfortunately.

“Teazal was just bounding about the garden when it happened.

“I was gutted, I took her straight to Kidds vets in Forfar who were amazing.

“We need to go back tomorrow and if the pressure isn't down she will lose her eye.

“She's only 7-months-old but I know she will adapt."

Now Catherine is forking out on huge vet bills to help her beloved dog recover.

The dog lover is warning others to be on the lookout for danger, even in their own gardens, as her pet has been left in pain from the accident.

Catherine added: "I don't know the total costs but Teazals health and welfare comes first.

"She is taking it in her stride, I'm more upset than her.

"She is blind in her blue eye now but coping very well but I would hate this to happen to anyone else.

“I want to tell others to be careful, I have had dogs all my life and this has never happened before.

“I know you can't wrap them in cotton wool but please be careful.”
