Scots punter wins £1million with £1 stake and plans 'slap up meal' to celebrate

A Scot who won £1million with a £1 stake plans to celebrate by going for a steak dinner.

The punter in his 30s, from Edinburgh, correctly predicted six numbers in the daily 49s draw.

The man, who is unemployed and wants to remain anonymous, has been using the same numbers – 1, 7, 16, 22, 31 and 44 – on a daily basis at his local William Hill shop.

He plans to buy a new house with his winnings but first wants to take his family out for a “really expensive steak dinner”.

Andrew Jamieson, 54, William Hill area manager in Edinburgh and Lothians, said: “I’ve been in the industry for 36 years and we have never had a winner like this in a betting shop in Scotland.

“This is also the first-ever millionaire winner in the UK on any bookmaker’s numbers game.”

Chloe Martin, 23, pictured left, a cashier in the Gorgie Road branch, added: “I’ve been working for William Hill for four years and the biggest payout I’ve been involved with was £14,000 to a punter who backed Donald Trump to be US president.

“It’s great when small stakes pay off and the punter can then splash out on all the steak they fancy.”

But her manager Lyndsay McGregor said: “It’s an absolutely fantastic result for this chap… but a steak dinner would do nothing for me as I’m vegetarian.”
