Scots prisoner found ‘critically injured’ in cell after alleged attack as cops launch probe

A prisoner has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after an alleged jail cell attack at HMP Glenochil.

The alarm was raised at around 11.30am on Saturday, January 9, after the male convict was discovered with serious injuries at the Clackmannanshire prison.

The victim, whose age is currently unknown, has been rushed to the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for treatment with medics describing his condition as ‘critical’.

A major police investigation has been launched to establish how the man sustained the injuries.

Sources claim the man was hurt during a ‘prisoner on prisoner attack’ but a probe into the full circumstances remains ongoing.

Police Scotland confirmed they were called to the scene on Saturday morning.

A force spokesperson said: "Around 11.30 am on Saturday, 9 January, 2021, police were called after a man was found seriously injured within Glenochil Prison, Clackmannanshire.

“He was taken by ambulance to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

"Enquiries into how he came about his injuries are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Prison Service added: "I can confirm that there was an incident at HMP Glenochil on Saturday January 9 which is currently being investigated by the police.

“A prisoner has been taken to hospital."
