Scots primary school shuts after seven coronavirus cases confirmed

A coronavirus cluster at a Scots primary school has now grown to seven cases, health chiefs have confirmed.

Staffing shortages now mean Carnegie Primary School in Dunfermline will be closed from today until after the October holidays.

Three cases were initially revealed at the school on Saturday, followed by a fourth late on Sunday evening.

An NHS Fife statement read: “A total of seven individuals with links to the school have now been confirmed as positive for the virus.

“Following further investigation and risk assessment, a decision has been taken to close the school building from today, Tuesday 6 October 2020, due to staffing issues.

“The school will remain closed until the start of the new term on Monday 26 October 2020.”

The nursery attached to the school is unaffected and will remain open as normal.

Health chiefs said classes P1C and P3B have been told to self-isolate along with P1A, P1/2, P2/3, P5/6 and P6B. All other pupils do not need to isolate.

The NHS Fife statement added: “A number of members of staff are now isolating as a precaution. Remote learning will be in place for the remaining days of this term.”

Anyone who develops any of the established symptoms of the virus should arrange testing using the UK Government Citizens’ Porta l or by calling 0800 028 2816.
