Scots primary kids left distressed as school livestreams funeral of ex-head teacher's parents

A Scots council have apologised “unreservedly” after the livestream of a funeral service was shown to children in a primary school.

A furious parent said her child was “bawling” when they arrived home from school after being shown the service at St Nicholas Primary in West Lothian.

She said children had been shown the footage, which was the funeral of the parents of a former head teacher, without their permission and some kids said the experience made them think of their own grandparents.

A number of parents have now complained directly to the school and West Lothian Council say they “apologise unreservedly” for what they said was an “error of judgement”.

A parent told the Daily Record: "All the kids were bawling. Some of the older ones were saying it reminded them of their grandparents.

"It's absolutely disgusting kids were left to experience a funeral without the support of their parents.

"A lot of the parents have taken the decision their kids aren't ready for that yet. The kids found it completely shocking.

"I'm outraged and so are the other parents - it goes against child safeguarding and to do it without parents' permission is completely out of order."

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We apologise unreservedly to parents for this error of judgement and for any distress caused.

“Understandably a number of parents have contacted us and we will address individual concerns that parents have directly with them.”
