Scots police widow snubbed by Amazon over refusal to withdraw cop protest gear

Amazon has told the wife of a police officer killed on duty that it won’t remove “Blue Lives Murder” T-shirts and mugs from sale.

Christine Fulton, who lost husband Lewis, 28, in 1994, wrote to the online shopping giant asking it to take down the merchandise, which “encourages hatred and violence”.

One T-shirt, priced at £17.95, features a white silhouette of an officer striking at a pair of outstretched arms.

PC Fulton was fatally stabbed by Philip McFadden during a call-out in the Gorbals area of Glasgow.

In her letter, Christine, 60, from Kilmarnock, wrote: “The bravery Lewis displayed that day is not unusual, the British Police Service is renowned for it. This bravery is what Amazon should be promoting and supporting, not slanderous merchandise which encourages hatred and violence.”

But Amazon’s Iain Wood, head of policy and strategy, told Christine: “Amazon recognises the bravery police officers demonstrate and the sacrifices they make in the line of duty.

“Amazon does not endorse the content of any product, book or video it offers. As a retailer, we aim to provide our customers with the widest possible selection and access to a variety of viewpoints, including books, videos and products that some may find objectionable.”

Police across the US and Britain have faced accusations of brutality following the death of George Floyd at the hands of officers in Minneapolis last month.
