Scots poet forced from social media after continuous abusive trolling

A renowned Scottish female poet has been forced to take a break from social media after repulsive internet trolls continued to target her work.

Len Pennie, who rose to notoriety through her Scots word of the day videos and poems, has said that she is taking a hiatus in order to focus on her mental health.

Len, who also goes by the name of Miss PunnyPennie online, has almost 120,000 followers on Twitter and had a huge presence on other platforms such as Tik-Tok.

The award winning poet was often targeted by unionist males using anonymous accounts - something she had spoken openly about in the past.

She was also subjected to targeted hate from unionists after the Scottish government’s office in Brussels promoted her appearance last month at Transpoesie 21 - an EU-funded poetry event to celebrate linguistic diversity.

Len posted on Twitter yesterday: “Jesus Christ. I dinnae think I'm cut oot fur this, so I'm gonnae tap oot so yous can read ma poyums an no ma obituary.

“I'm gonnae gie ma account tae a pal tae post the word. I'm sorry. X”

Late last year, political chameleon George Galloway, had targeted the creative on Twitter saying “Scottish nationalism. The future” before posting below one of her videos “What’s wrong with you?”

Being targeted in this way has led to the poet discussing her mental health publicly and has led to Len becoming an advocate for mental health issues.

Scots singer of the year winner, Iona Fyfe, has backed Len Pennie, she said: “I genuinely hae nae clue why people can’t just leave [Len] alone? She is simply existing, posting words in Scots and promoting our language. Why are people so feart of Scots language speakers, poets, singers etc?”
