Scots pickup truck driver hunted after hit-and-run leaves two men injured

Police are hunting a pickup truck driver after a hit-and-run that left two cyclists injured in Dumfriesshire.

The men, aged 44 and 53, were hit by a silver Ford ranger towing a trailer on the A7 Edinburgh to Carlisle road near to Brier Hill in the village of Ewes.

The pair were knocked off their bikes and suffered injuries.

The Ford Ranger driver did not stop to assist.

They had been cycling with a group of six other cyclists on the southbound carriageway at the time of the collision.

Police confirmed that those injured were treated at the scene.

The nature of their injuries was not disclosed.

Officers 'need to speak to the driver' of the pickup truck and stressed that they might have not realised that they hit the cyclists.

Witnesses and those with dash-cam footage of the area are also being urged to come forward.

Cops are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a white car that travelled north on that stretch of road at the time.

Dumfries and galloway police division released a statement as part of their investigation into the crash.

It read: "Police Scotland is appealing for information following a road traffic collision in Ewes.

"A around 11.25am, on Saturday, June 19, 2021 a group of eight cyclists were travelling south on the A7, Edinburgh to Carlisle road, near to Brier Hill, Ewes, when two of the cyclists were struck by a silver coloured Ford Ranger vehicle towing a trailer.

"The male cyclists, aged 44 and 53, came off their bikes and suffered injuries.

"They were treated at the scene.

"In particular, officers are keen to trace the driver of a white coloured car travelling north on this road. If you have any information regarding this collision please contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 1772 of Saturday, June 19, 2021."
