A pervert told cops indecent images of kids got onto his computer while searching online for school uniforms for a young relative.
Alan Wilson made the bizarre excuse after officers turned up on the doorstep of his Midlothian home with a warrant.
The 45-year-old was snared with a sick haul of photographs and videos of children being sexually abused.
Wilson appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday and admitted a charge of possessing child pornography between August 4 2019 and September 4 last year.
Fiscal depute Alan Wickham told how police received information that an IP address linked to Wilson’s home had accessed indecent images of youngsters.
Officers were granted a search warrant, Mr Wickham said, and they swooped on the accused’s home in Newtongrange.
Mr Wickham said Wilson was home and told cops he’d been “looking for school uniforms” for a young female relative and there may be indecent images on his devices “as a result”.
The court was told a number of electronic items were seized, including hard drives, USB sticks, mobile phones, tablets, and a laptop.
Mr Wickham said six devices were examined and 2659 “accessible” indecent images of children were found. Six were at Category A - the worst level - while one was Category B and 2654 were Category C.
The hearing was told a further 1563 images were “inaccessible”, with 14 at Category A, 11 at Category B, and 1538 at Category C.
Mr Wickham said “accessible” child abuse videos were also recovered, including one at Category A and 135 at Category C, while another 37 at Category C were “inaccessible”.
Sheriff ????? deferred sentence on first offender Wilson until next month for reports.
