Scots pensioner suffers fractured skull after being beaten and robbed twice in own home

A terrified pensioner had his skull fractured in a horror home robbery after being targeted twice in one day.

The 69-year-old victim was threatened by a masked man with a fake gun who demanded money at his property in Lynedoch Street, Greenock, at 6.30am on Wednesday morning.

The gunman left with a two-figure sum.

Later that night two men forced entry to his home and and assaulted the pensioner.

He was rushed to Inverclyde Hospital with a fractured skull.

Police and paramedics were called to the property at 10.35pm where two men were still in the property.

Both men were arrested.

Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses to the morning raid to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, wearing light coloured jogging trousers, a dark padded jacket and wearing a facial covering.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are treating the 10.35pm incident as an assault with intent to rob.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Enquiries by officers have revealed that earlier in the day, the 69-year-old victim was the subject of a robbery.

“The crime was not reported to police at the time. Around 6.10am, a man attended at the door, with what appeared to be a firearm, threatened the occupant and demanded money. The suspect left with a two-figure sum of cash.”

“Detectives are appealing to local people in that area to think back and consider if they noticed anything odd or suspicious. Perhaps you saw the man enter or leave the close.”
