Scots pensioner dies after car plunges into harbour on Christmas Eve

A pensioner has tragically died after this car plunged into the water at Arbroath harbour on Christmas Eve.

The alarm was raised after the vehicle was seen entering the water at around 7.20pm on Thursday.

Police, fire crews and paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service raced to the scene but the 81-year-old man’s body was recovered a short time later.

A large crane was brought in to recover the stricken white vehicle from the marina.

Police Scotland have now confirmed the death.

A force spokesperson said: “We received a report of a car entering the water at Arbroath Harbour around 7.20pm on Thursday, December 24.

“The body of an 81-year-old man was recovered from the water a short time later. His next of kin are aware.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they sent two appliances to the scene but crews were stood down a short time later.
