Scots pensioner dead after being mowed down by lorry as police probe crash

A pensioner has died after being mowed down by a lorry in Perth and Kinross.

The 86-year-old man was hit by a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) on the A9's southbound carriageway between Blair Atholl and Pitlochry, near to Killiecrankie on Friday.

The tragic incident took place just after 10.30pm

Emergency crews raced to the scene but the OAP was pronounced dead upon their arrival.

The road was closed as police carried out an investigation.

It reopened at around 4.50am on Saturday.

The police probe continues as officers urge witnesses or those with information to come forward.

Cops also passed on their condolences to the man's loved ones.

Sergeant Paul Taylor said: “Our thoughts at this time are with the family and friends of the man who sadly lost his life.

“Our enquiries into the incident are continuing and I would ask anyone who saw what happened or who was driving in the area at the time, and has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 4064 of July 2, 2021."
