Scots parents open lockdown 'home restaurant' for kids who don't understand why they can't go out for a meal

A Scots couple staged their own 'home restaurant' after their two sons didn't understand why they couldn't go out for dinner.

Callum and Clare-Marie Macaulay set up the 'Mummy and Daddy Restaurant' for sons Evan, five and two-year-old Lucas after the pair were left confused about coronavirus lockdown rules.

Callum played 'Chef Daddy' while Clare-Marie was 'Mummy Waitress' as they 'wined' and dined the youngsters.

Callum, 36, says the Paisley couple came up with the idea because the boys didn't understand why they couldn't go to a restaurant.

He told the Record: "Clare-Marie said she wanted to do something for the bouys. Evan knows there's something going on, but he;'s only five so he doesn't really understand it and Lucas is just two so he hasn't a clue what's happening or why we can't do normal things.

"We came up with the restaurant idea as a wee treat for them because they don't understand why we can't go out."

The couple went to great lengths to make the experience as authentic as possible for the boys with their waitress greeting them at the front door and Chef Daddy pouring their blackcurrent 'wine'.

The even printed out special menus for the kids, serving up cheesy nachos to start, chicken and cheese quesadillas for main course and a choice of vanilla ice cream, mint choc chip ice cream or a strawberry ice lolly.

The couple filmed the home dining experience and posted it to Callum's Facebook page where it quickly went viral racking up more  than 15,000 shares and 10,000 comments.

Callum said: "It's unbelievable the response it's had. We done it to make our boys happy and it did, they loved it, but if it is making other people smile then that's brilliant.

"The weekdays are filled with home schooling but the Easter holidays are coming up so we will need to get thinking of new ideas to keep them occupied."

Fellow parents who viewed the video were impressed with the couple's efforts.

One said: "This is the best thing I've seen in a while. You are awesome parents and your children are so polite and adorable."

Another said: "Awww how sweet thank you for brightening up my day."

"Wish my weans could stay in the same room as each other to do things like this with them," added another.
