Scots parents divided over schools with some keeping kids off all week to keep relatives safe on Christmas Day

Anxious Scots parents are split over whether schools are safe from Covid - with some pulling their kids from class before it closed for Christmas this week.

Worried mums and dads were torn over whether to send their youngsters to school this week over fears they might contract coronavirus and ruin family Christmas plans.

The Scottish Government announced that families from three households would be able to gather on Christmas Day only, after a recent rise in Covid19 cases.

The u-turn followed a previous announcement from all four UK nationals which would have allowed the same number of households to gather for five days and permitted travel between the UK.

However those plans were scrapped in a bid to curb the growing Covid numbers.

While some Scots schools closed their doors for 2020 on Friday, others were open until today.

However some parent opted to keep children home this week in fear rising Covid numbers might result in them receiving a track and trace alert.

When asked if the would be keeping children off school this week, parents were divided over the issue.

One Scots mum said: "Yes I took my son out the school and have keep my son safe from his school."

While another mum said she kept her kids off so she would be able to invite her family at Christmas for a few days.

She said: "Yes they finished up on Friday last week so we could spend time with family at Xmas, I don't care what we nicky says my family will be together for a few days at Xmas as we have all been self isolating."

But other parents said they were sending their kids to school as long as they were open.

"Why would you keep them off? They're getting 3/4 weeks off already. Unless you're home schooling it's a legal requirement to send your kids to school," added another.

A fourth added: "Nope mine went until the school closed today. Don't keep him off when there's 2cm of snow either."
