Scots paramedic 'spat on and subjected to sectarian abuse' by Rangers fans 'for wearing green uniform'

A paramedic was reportedly spat on and subjected to sectarian abuse from Rangers fans for wearing her green uniform.

She is also understood to have been referred to by the slur 'F*****' while providing medical care to fans injured at George Square.

One of her colleagues, Darren, relayed the story of her experience during an interview with Radio Clyde.

He also said that he hadn't been able to take on any more shifts after watching the chaotic scenes at Glasgow city centre on Saturday.

He told Radio Clyde: "To be treated like that, in the middle of a global pandemic, when we're frontline workers, to have to stand and endure that level of abuse, to witness the police having bottles thrown at them, for at least four hours solid.

"There are just no words you can use for it."

Darren added that another, newer colleague of his was due to return for a shift on Sunday but was too distressed by what had happened the day before.

Rangers fans gathered at George Square to celebrate the 55th title and first premier league win in a decade.

However, Police Scotland were soon forced to 'user powers' to disperse crowds after disorder erupted and led to over 20 arrests.

Three police officers were also injured while on duty.

Rangers has since issued a statement saying that only a 'small minority" were responsible for "besmirching the club's good name," but added that "some scenes were unacceptable."
