Scots Outlander star becomes patron for children's charity Cash for Kids

Outlander star Steven Cree has joined Cash for Kids as a national patron.

The actor, from Kilmarnock, will support the local work carried out by West FM as he helps to raise the profile of Cash for Kids and the children it supports in order to drive awareness and funds.

Steven, who is well-known for playing Ian Murray in Outlander, is proud to support the charity which recently launched a coronavirus appeal to help the families that need it the most.

The initiative has already raised over £1 million which will be used to provide grants to help families with children to pay for basic essentials such as food and heating.

It is a cause close to the heart of the actor who most recently played Chief Constable Stuart Collier in Sky One drama Cobra, and Joe Kallisto in ITV's Deep Water.

He will also be back on our screens this year as a new regular character in Sky One hit drama, A Discovery of Witches, playing Gallowglass, a vampire and soldier of fortune.

Steven said: “In lockdown it’s been hard not to feel helpless or overwhelmed by events all over the world. Like most of us, my main priority has been the health and safety of my family.

“My wife and I are were talking about what lockdown must mean for families in all different situations, which led us to speak about Cash for Kids.

“The work Cash for Kids do is vitally important, and never more so than at this time of global crisis. I am extremely proud to join the charity as a patron and I’m keen to do anything I can to support this fantastic cause and raise awareness and funds to support families who need help in challenging times.”
