Scots nightclub boss targeted in firebomb attack on plush street as house gutted by blaze

Businessman Chris Lessani's property on a plush Glasgow street was targeted in a suspected firebombing attack.

Fire crews were called after the Sanctuary nightclub owner's house in Knightswood went on fire around 1am on Friday, August 6.

Police have launched a probe after a vehicle was set alight in Lessani's garage at the front of the property.

The fire quickly spread to the house, where it's believed Lessani was sleeping inside at the time.

Scared neighbours told of the terrifying scene as the blaze quickly spread throughout the front of the house as smoke filled the street.

One said: "It was really scary.

"We woke up to a loud explosion and when I looked out the window you could see huge flames.

"The family are away now. I were just so pleased to see he was okay."

Another neighbour said: "We know him well from living in the community and he has been really shaken by this.

"It was a really scary experience. We are all scared too because this is the first time anything like this has ever happened in this area."

A third said: "We woke up to all the noise and saw smoke pummelling out of the house.

"The fire brigade were here for hours trying to put it out.

"Police have been round all the neighbours asking if we saw anything but no one knows what happened."

In the aftermath, the front of the property appeared to be completely gutted by the blaze.

Fire crews battled the flames before they spread throughout the back of the property, but the garage and room above were destroyed.

Property from the house lay fire damaged in the front garden, which has been guarded by a fence.

Chris Lessani confirmed to the Record that he and his family were uninjured as a result of the blaze at his property, but he would not comment any further.

Officers confirmed they are probing the incident and they are appealing for information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing into a fire raising incident which happened in the early hours of Friday, 6 August.

“A vehicle was set alight and the fire then spread to the nearby property.

“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and nobody was injured.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 0224 of August 6.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed they received the call at around 1.03am on Friday, August 6.

The spokesperson added: "We mobilised two appliances and informed a senior officer about the fire.

"We left the scene after the fire was extinguished at around 4.45am."

In April, 2017, a car was deliberately driven into Lessani's Sanctuary nightclub in Glasgow's west end, before being set alight.

At the time police confirmed the incident took place at the nightclub on Dumbarton Road at around midnight and they appealed for information.

Two men got out of a grey VW Tiguan, which was believed to have been stolen, and set fire to it on the premises.

No one was injured and the club was closed at the time of the fire.
