A junior NHS doctor chased down yobs who smashed her car days after her bike was stolen.
Rachel Thompson, from Edinburgh, was left furious after watching her car being vandalised on Friday, April 2 outside her flat.
The 25-year-old ran outside to confront the culprits who jumped into an Uber before Rachel pulled the door open, reports Edinburgh Live
She 'frantically' explained to the three young men that she was a medic working through the pandemic and was already struggling to get to work.
It comes after she discovered that her bike - which she uses to cycle to work everyday - had been nicked from her locked close by heartless thieves on Monday evening.
But the group of yobs still took off down the street in a desperate bid to accept responsibility forcing Rachel to chase them on foot.
She told Edinburgh Live : "I normally cycle every day to work so have had to use my car for these last few days and now I can’t even do that."
"When I witnessed the mirror being kicked off I grabbed my flat keys and ran downstairs.
"The three boys I saw were getting into an Uber so I ran down and opened the passenger door as the three boys were in the back.
"I frantically explained my situation to the driver and asked him if I should contact the police - he said no and asked me to close the door. The three boys told me it was the boys further down the street, even though I knew it was one of the boys."
Fortunately for Rachel, who works at Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, a kind-hearted fireman came to her aid: "Luckily, a fireman pulled up in an unmarked car and asked me if I was ok. After explaining to him, he sped after the taxi driver and blocked him in with his car.
"The three young men got out of the taxi and the perpetrator made a run for it.
"I started to run after him and the fireman got in his car and sped after him. He darted down a small cobbled street and I stopped running, the fireman followed the road and went to cut him off.
"I phoned the police who eventually advised me to head home."
Rachel has since reported the incident to the police but has explained that she feels her incident is by no means isolated.
"I have many friends that have had bikes stolen," she told Edinburgh Live: "I cycled every day to work as my boyfriend and I share a car and he works further away so has to have the car. Now I am left with a damaged car and no bike.
"I’m working six shifts in a row, I am working every single day of this four-day long bank holiday and I am tired.
"I’m tired of work already and I’m a junior doctor. I’m tired of trying to do a good job and working through the pandemic only for this to happen to me."
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
