Scots musician describes moment he was caught up in Vienna terrorist attack

Scots musician Callum Beattie has opened up about the terrifying moment he found himself in the midst of the terrorist attack in Vienna on Monday night.

Five people were tragically killed and several were injured when a gunman opened fire in the Austrian capital on Monday, November 2.

The 28-year-old was out at a bar in Vienna on the way to visit his girlfriend, who is based in Budapest, when the terrorist attack began, according to the Independent.

He told the paper how he "panicked" as he heard "sirens everywhere" before his mum and dad began calling him and sending him news stories about what was happening.

Beattie, who grew up in Musselburgh, said it sounded "like a war had been started" and so he suggested to a bar manager that they turn all the lights off and lock the doors.

The singer told how he and around 14 others in the bar were sent to the basement where his manager Dave Rogers texted him UK news articles about what was thought to be happening.

The singer also revealed how he had almost headed to an Irish bar that night, which turned out to be much closer to the fatal shooting than where he ended up but he changed his mind last minute.

Callum, who currently has a song in the iTunes chart, said that the walk back to his hotel was the "scariest journey" he has ever had to make.
