Scots museum to ask Martin Compston for iconic Line of Duty waistcoat to display after tweet goes viral

Scots museum bosses are set to ask Line of Duty star Martin Compston for one of his iconic waistcoats to be kept under lock and key.

The National Museum of Scotland tweeted saying they would ask the Inverclyde-born actor if they could put one of the garments in the national collection if they gained more than 1,000 retweets.

They warned however they couldn't guarantee success and it would be up to Compston, who has been hailed for his portrayal of Steve Arnott in the show.

Millions of fans of the long-running hit BBC hit were left gripped at the series finale last night as the mysterious 'H' was unmasked.

The National Museum of Scotland tweeted last night after the show: "If this gets 1000 retweets we'll ask @martin_compston

if we can put one of Steve Arnott's waistcoats in the National Museum of Scotland*. #LineOfDuty

"*disclaimer: we, the social media team, do not have this power but it's worth a try."

At the time of writing the tweet has already gathered 2,200 retweets and more than 3,000 'likes'.

Compston has not responded publicly.
