Scots mum walks off baby weight in lockdown after IVF drugs made her pile on the pounds

A Scots mum lost her baby weight walking every day in lockdown after piling on more than four stones through IVF treatment.

Mhari Cockburn, 32, piled on the pounds while taking medication to help her get pregnant with daughter Daisy, now one.

The Kilwinning mum's weight rocketed during the IVF process and finally, on the fourth attempt Mhari and husband Scott, 38, were delighted to discover they were expecting.

But her weight continued to balloon during her pregnancy and when she weighed herself after giving birth, she was stunned to see the scales tipping 15 stones.

Mhari said: "That was the heaviest I had ever been in my life. I couldn't believe it. I knew it was from the medication, but also because I was not keeping active while I was pregnant.

"I was so terrified and anxious about doing anything that would harm the baby so I just deliberately didn't do anything or move very much."

Determined to beat the bulge, the 32-year-old decided to get moving and took full advantage of her daily exercise window during lockdown.

Mhari set herself a target of 13,500 steps a day and with baby Daisy tucked up in her pram, the new mum pounded the pavements every day.

Mhari also signed up to Mission Fit, a fitness programme run by her pal Roy Blakey, who gave her tips on how to change her diet.

Within six weeks Mhari had lost a stone and over the course of the year, another three fell off.

Now weighing a healthy 11st 6lbs, Mhari say the transformation has boosted her confidence and mental health.

She added: "I know your weight shouldn't make you happy or unhappy, but it does affect us. I have gone from being really anxious and self conscious to feeling much more confident and I love getting out and about."
