Scots mum tells of horror after beloved kitten found hanged in freak accident

A Scots mum has told of the devastating moment she found her beloved kitten hung in a freak accident.

Alia Gilbert, 28, made the grim discovery on Tuesday in her family home in Edinburgh and is encouraging other pet owners to be careful.

Her "beautiful baby" Luna, who was less than one year old, poked her head out the top part of an open window.

But devastated Alia believes she "lost her footing" before tragedy struck.

She took to Facebook and wrote: "I found my beautiful baby dead this morning. She was young and healthy, absolutely nothing wrong with her.

"She had tried to poke her head out the top gap on my back window and lost her footing and accidentally hung her self. We are absolutely devastated."

Alia, who owns a cleaning business, is keen to get a safety message out to other pet owners and has warned of the dangers of open windows.

"I know a lot of new build houses now have windows that open from the top. Please for your cats sake, keep them closed when you aren’t present.

"If you are going out or going to bed remember to check they are shut. I wouldn’t want anybody else to find their cat the way I found Luna.

"Rest in peace my wee hen. My house feels quiet and dull without you."
