Scots mum says McDonald’s Happy Meal toy ‘predicted’ pregnancy after miscarriage heartache

A new Scots mum believes a McDonald's happy meal toy predicted her pregnancy after she suffered a rare miscarriage.

Leigh Henderson, 26, from Hamilton, says the blue Mr Bump toy she opened hours before finding out she was expecting was the first sign she was pregnant two years after losing her first child.

After giving birth to a healthy baby boy named Chester Leo on October 26 at Wishaw General Hospital, superstitious Leigh remembered back to the McDonald's toy she came across nine months prior.

She said: "It was definitely a sign. I went to the drive-thru with my husband Sean and whilst we were waiting on our food he happened to suggest maybe I was pregnant because my heart rate was really high.

"I said I didn't think so as we had only just started trying and then two minutes later I pulled out a blue Mr Bump toy.

"I just felt like it was telling me something. It sounds stupid but it was just so strange."

After going to straight to the supermarket to buy a pregnancy test, Leigh and Sean found out they were expecting.

Leigh, who owns Twinkle Baby Boutique in Glasgow, said: "We were over the moon. It just felt so right and special. Not only was I pregnant with a bump but I also had a little boy. To this day I still believe it was a sign."

The couple's happy news came two years after Leigh suffered a molar pregnancy in November 2017.

A molar pregnancy is extremely rare and happens when there's a problem with a fertilised egg, which means a baby and a placenta do not develop the way they should after conception.

Sadly they found out at their 12 week scan their baby had no heartbeat.

Leigh then had to undergo a procedure to remove the pregnancy and had to have follow-up tests for six months to make sure there was no further complications.

She added: "It was an awful, heartbreaking time. It was so emotionally and physically draining. I didn't think we would go on to have another baby as I was so scared to go through the same thing again.

"Fortunately we now have Chester and he is perfect. We are besotted by him. I feel like I'm living a dream. It was tough to get here but he really is our light at the end of the tunnel."
