Scots mum's witty Instagram post slams covid restrictions for 'neglecting' toddlers

A Scots mum's witty Instagram post slamming Nicola Sturgeon 's Covid restrictions for 'neglecting' mums and toddlers has gone viral.

Yasmin Myles posted a simple but effective illustrated message onto her Instagram stories about how the Scottish Government were "leaving pre-schoolers behind' with the latest restrictions.

Yasmin, 33, is mum to two-year-old Morven and six-month-old Blair.

She says she, and other mums like her, have been left 'isolated' due to strict Covid-19 rules which ban people meeting indoors.

She also says the First Minister's refusal to open places like soft plays, toddler groups and swimming pools, means now that the winter weather is almost here, she is left with no choice but to stay indoors, on her own with a toddler and a baby when husband Graeme, 32 goes to work.

Yasmin, of Dunfermline, said: "I feel isolated and I know I am not the only mum in this sitution.

"These restrictions say children under 12 can meet up outdoors with a five others, but my children and two and eight-months-old. I'm hardly going to send them to the park to meet up with a few of their friends.

"Whatever they do, I have to do with them, but that gets extremely limited when I am only allowed to meet with one other household outdoors.

"Toddlers have been completely neglected with these new rules, and as a result, so have mothers.

"If you are an adult you are free to go to the pub, a restaurant, the gym, a shopping centre. All the things you might enjoy are available.

"But if you are a pre-school child or their mother, you can't do any of the things you enjoy socially. It's fundamentally unfair."

Yasmin was so fed up of the restrictions she doodled a few pictures to illustrate her point and posted to her Instagram and Facebook pages  - and the posts went viral gaining thousands of likes and comments.

One mum said: "This is so sad and true. My poor toddler was doing amazing before lockdown and now she can’t do anything and has attachment issues. Nowhere to play or do anything and winter is coming."

Another said: "It’s awful. My son used to be such a confident wee guy and now he’s so shy and timid."

"It's so awful. Think we need to get our boys to the pub!!! Just joking but it seems its the only way they can socialise," added another

"Even going to a coffee shop or something is hard with young kids cos they just want to play rather than sit in their chairs or highchair," said a fourth.

Yasmin added: "I honestly didn't expect that response from my silly drawings, but it just proves that there are so many mums out there who are feeling alone and isolated. Something needs to change."
