Scots mum reveals Thomas Cook flight attendant saved toddler's life just before losing her job

A Scots mum has told how a Thomas Cook flight attendant on one of her last trips saved her toddler when he was choking.

Lisa McKechnie, from Belshill, Lanarkshire, thanked "absolute legend" Jill Clark for helping two-year-old Jude when he choked on a piece of Play-Doh just before they headed off on a family holiday to Cancun, Mexico, on September 3.

Jill, from Glasgow , noticed Jude struggling to breathe during the flight and rushed to his aid.

Lisa, 28, who was heading on holiday with her toddler and 20 of their family members, said: "I had bought Jude Play-Doh to help keep him entertained on the flight. We had just got onto the plane and I was getting our stuff organised and putting our seat belts on.

"Jude had just started playing with the Play-Doh and the next thing I turned around and he looked like he couldn't breathe.

"He couldn't talk and was starting to boak.

"He was really struggling. I knew he must have put a bit into his mouth. I started to panic and called for help. My mum tried to help too but we just couldn't get it out."

Lisa said she froze for a few seconds and the next thing she knew flight attendant Jill had grabbed the youngster from his seat.

She added: "She started whacking his back and doing her bit to help.

"It was my worst nightmare unfolding in front of my eyes and Jill came to our rescue. She saved him and I will be forever grateful. What she did for us that day was priceless."

After the ordeal, Jude fell asleep and Lisa said he woke up like nothing had happened.

"He was fine, but the rest of us were traumatised', added Lisa.

On their return from Cancun, Lisa tried to track Jill down on Facebook.

She said: "I was so grateful for her help and wanted to let people know. I was hoping to send her flowers as a thank you.

Jill's daughter saw Lisa's post and later put the two women in touch with each other.

After hearing Jill had lost her job earlier this week after the travel firm's collapse, Lisa said she was "gutted".

She added: "Jill was an absolute credit to Thomas Cook. Any airline will be lucky to have her working for them. What's happened to the staff is heartbreaking. My heart bleeds for them."
