Scots mum of baby with mass of wild hair spends fortune on products to tame it

A Scots mum has pleaded for help in taming her baby daughter's wild hair.

Jennifer Clocherty says her five-month-old daughter, Arabèlla Luciá's hair is so long and thick she has trouble even brushing it most days.

The mum-of-two from Renfrew says she was stunned when Arabèlla Luciá was born on September 3 last year complete with a thick mop of curly locks.

However the 24-year-old, who is also mum to six-year-old Lucas, didn't see her daughter's mane at first as she was recovering from a C-section.

She explains: "I didn't really notice at first and then the staff put one of those wee wooly hats on her head so when I went back to the ward with her I still didn't realise she had so much hair.

"It was only a wee while later when I was changing her I seen all these thick black curls."

Despite her shock she says Arabèlla Luciá's dad, Tony Kernachan, 36, wasn't even phased.

She said: "He had seen all her hair and hadn't even told me. He didn't think it was a big deal, but I couldn't believe it."

After bringing Arabèlla Luciá home Jennifer assumed her daughter's baby hair would start to shed, but instead, she says it just grew thicker and faster.

She said: "Some babies lose their initial baby hair, but not Arabèlla Luciá. It just kept growing and growing and now she is still only five months old and some days I struggle to even get the brush through it."

Jennifer says she has already had to spend a small fortune on baby-safe hair products to stop her daughter's locks becoming tangled every day.

She said: "Before I had Arabèlla Luciá I had no idea about all of the baby-safe clasps and hairbands you can get because usually babies don't really need them.

"I have also had to buy different shampoos and detangle sprays that are safe for young babies just to keep her hair under control.

"I must have spent about £50 already and her hair is only getting bigger so no doubt that will be more money."

Despite the cost, Jennifer says she loves her baby girl's standout style and says she get compliments on her all the time.

She added: "People often stop and look or compliment her on all her hair and eye lashes. She is a beautiful wee girl with all that wild hair and she definitely has the personality to match."
