Scots mum leaves social media stunned after asking for tips on toilet training her unusual pet

A Scots mum left fellow Mrs Hinch fans stunned after asking for tips on toilet training her pet hedgehog.

Kellie-Jane Bartkus told members of the Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page that her pet hedgehog Lottie had "done her business" on her little sofa and pleaded for tips on how to clean up the mess.

But Kellie-Jane's post didn't attract the response she was hoping for with fellow Hinchers gushing over the African pygmy hedgehog, instead of offering cleaning advice.

Lottie (Lottie)

Kirkintilloch mum, Kellie-Jane was astonished to received almost 300 adoring messages from fellow mums wanting more information on lovely Lottie.

Kellie-Jane says her decision to get such an unusual pet came after 'months of research'

She said: "I have always been an animal lover! It was actually when I was doing an essay on the decline in wild hedgehogs for my Animal care course and just came across these little cute pet ones, the African pygmy hedgehog, and done months of research on them before even thinking about getting one. There's a lot to learn about them."

Little Lottie (Facebook)

Although not hugely common, African pygmy hedgehogs are kept as pets, but thanks to Kellie-Jane's post, the demand for the little creatures might just 'spike'.

One mum posted: "OMG I don't know how to get the pee out but I want a hedgehog."

Another said: "A pet hedgehog. I never even knew these existed, beautiful!"

Another added: "I want one where do I get one from omg they are adorable, didn’t even know you could keep them as pets."

Kellie-Jane (Kellie-Jane)

But Kellie-Jane warned people not to rush to buy one saying the should be sure to research them.

She added: "Thanks everyone for their positive comments on my wee Lottie. A lot of people now want a hedgehog.

"Before anyone thinks about buying one PLEASE do a good amount of research beforehand to see if this type of pet fits your lifestyle. Please find a reliable breeder as they can develop health problems when people who think their "breeders" just put two hogs together, it doesn't work like that.

"These are captive bred! Obviously they were wild at one point just like cats and dogs were.

"There is a hedgehog rehoming page as some people get them and find out they cant take care of them properly, so there are plenty of hogs in need of adoption."
