A Scots mum found out her five-year-old daughter had cancer the same week she was scheduled to have brain surgery.
Samantha Harrison, 29, from Edinburgh was rushed to intensive care in April when she didn't wake up from a nap.
The mum-of-one spent two weeks in hospital with fluid in her brain and was due to have an e ndoscopic third ventriculostomy to drain the fluid when she was informed her daughter had cancer.
Heartbroken Samantha cancelled the operation to be by five-year-old Quinn's side after her shock diagnosis.
Specialists told the family Quinn had a Wilms' tumour on July 27 - a type of kidney cancer - after they discovered a growth the size of a large grapefruit on her kidney.
Speaking to the Record Samantha said: "Quinn has a condition where one side of her body is bigger than the other so she gets a scan every three months.
"It was at one of these scans in July doctors found the tumour.
"They are doing chemo to shrink the tumour first because of her condition, it is very likely the cancer will come back.
"If they removed the full kidney it might come back on her other one and then she would need a transplant.
"The first couple of weeks of chemo were horrendous. She was in hospital Sunday to Tuesday and by the Tuesday night she was taken back in again. It was really, really hard the first two weeks.
"After that she perked up a bit. It has been a rollercoaster - she is a little superstar."
Doctors won't know what stage Quinn's cancer is until they remove the tumour in November.
The five-year-old will then continue chemotherapy treatment for at least nine months.
Mum Samantha has decided to wait until after Quinn's operation to reschedule her own so she can be with her daughter.
It has been a 'horrendous' time for the family as poor Quinn had to have surgery last Halloween after a pole impaled her skull in a freak accident.
Samantha also received an 'out of the blue' diagnosis of diabetes last year before she fell ill and had to be rushed to hospital in April this year.
Samantha said: "I went for a nap on Easter Sunday before my birthday dinner and I woke up three days later in intensive care. I was kept in for two weeks.
"I was supposed to have surgery in May but it got rescheduled due to coronavirus. It was rescheduled to the same week I found out Quinn had cancer so I cancelled it.
"It would mean leaving her for two weeks. I want to see how Quinn's operation goes first. As soon as I know she is out and she is fine, I'll have a bit more peace of mind.
"I'm hoping we will both have had our operations by Christmas."
Two of Samantha's good friends, Leanne and Ashely, have now set up a fundraising page to give them the best Christmas possible after an extremely difficult time.
The pair, alongside around 30 others, will walk 30 miles on November 6 wearing hoodies with Quinn's face on them to boost donations.
The family have been absolutely blown away by everyones generosity so far with the total already raised over £1,500.
