Scots mum fled home wearing only pyjamas after drunk partner forced way in after binge

A mum fled her home wearing only her pyjamas after finding her partner had forced his way in after a drinking binge.

Mark Cameron, 47, staggered into Laura McKenna’s house in Johnstone uninvited, causing her to escape into the street in fear.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Ms McKenna was so frightened that she left the house with her young children still sleeping in their beds.

The court heard Cameron and Ms McKenna had been together for more than 20 years and have three children, but they live in separate homes.

Prosecutor Susan Barr told the court they have separated over his drinking.

She said: “On the evening of April 2, they were at the accused’s sister’s house, but Ms McKenna took a taxi home with her two children because the accused had been drinking and had become intoxicated.

“At 4.45am the following morning, Ms McKenna was awakened by the sounds of banging coming from the front door.

“She formed the opinion she did not wish to see the accused and decided to ignore the disturbance.

“She received ten phone calls from Cameron and text messages on her mobile phone saying he wanted into the property.”

The court heard shortly afterwards she learned he had forced his way in.

The prosecutor added: “She became aware of a noise coming from downstairs.

“She immediately formed the view he had forced entry to the property.

“She grabbed her mobile phone and ran from the property into the street wearing only her night clothes.

“She was so alarmed that she had left her young children asleep in their beds.”

She called police who found her outside frightened and concerned for her children.

Cops were about to force entry themselves when Cameron appeared at the door and told them he had been there “for hours”, and he didn’t understand why the police had been called.

On Wednesday, Cameron, of Greenend Avenue, Johnstone, pleaded guilty to a charge of repeatedly banging a door and forcing entry to the premises uninvited and placing his partner in a state of fear and alarm.

Defence agent James Arrol said his client had been in a relationship with Ms McKenna for a “significant period of time”.

He added: “He has a different address to the property involved and he accepts what happened.

“He accepts he was inebriated and she had told him not to come back.

“He had not got the message and he accepts that he behaved in the manner described.

“He is embarrassed by the incident.”

Mr Arrol added that Cameron works part-time and continues to help pay for the upkeep of his family.

Sheriff Iona McDonald told him: “All of this was over your drinking and you need to address that.”

She deferred sentencing him for four months and ordered him to be of good behaviour.

He will discover his fate on November 17.

Sheriff McDonald added: “No further incidents.”
