Scots mum claims son, 12, sent knife threat message after pals fall out over Fortnite

A horrified mum says her 12-year-old son was sent knife threat messages after falling out with his pal over computer game Fortnite.

She claims the Facetime message was sent to another friend of her boy, warning: "Right see the morn at lunch he's getting stabbed," accompanied by knife and skull emojis.

The 40-year-old senior care worker says the lads - who attend different schools - had been friends until they fell out on October 22 about the computer game, where players fight each other online in battle arenas.

The mum says called in police three days later when she learned of the alleged threat.

She said: "I'm hurt and angry. My son is scared and so am I."

A  police spokesman said: " Police Scotland can confirm that a 12-year-old boy was charged with telecommunications offence on Friday, October 25 after an incident was reported to police on Wednesday, October 23."

A City of Edinburgh Council spokesman said school staff "acted immediately".

He added: "The safety of staff and pupils is of the utmost importance and schools always educate young people about the risks and consequences of carrying weapons.

"The school has liaised closely with the police during their investigation and it would be inappropriate to comment further."
