Scots mum captures SpaceX rocket in sky above Lanarkshire home

A Scots mum couldn't believe her eyes when she managed to capture a picture of the SpaceX rocket after it was launched in the US.

Astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley are currently on their way to the International Space Station aboard a Falcon 9 rocket after the mission was given the green light.

It was the second time NASA and SpaceX attempted the historic launch after their first was postponed due to bad weather last Wednesday.

Excited Scots looked skywards the hour after liftoff at 8.22pm UK time to catch a glimpse of the rocket.

And Heidi Strickland managed to capture what appears to be the spacecraft in the skies above her home in Douglas, Lanarkshire.

In the images, you can see a tiny white spec with trails of smoke coming out the back as the rocket launched into orbit.

Speaking to The Record, she said: "My kids and I were looking out for it since it was lauched.

"We watched it live and heard that the rocket might be visible from Scotland. The kids were so excited when it appeared."

The capsule is scheduled to dock with the ISS at around 10:29 EDT (15:29 BST) tomorrow, and the hatches between the two craft will open about 2.5 hours later.

The Crew Dragon spacecraft will dock with the station to test whether it’s capable on future missions of remaining connected for up to 210 days.

However, the length of the mission remains unclear, with NASA only revealing that Demo-2 will last between 30 days and four months.

It marks the first time humans have been launched from the US since 2011. SpaceX rocket
