Mum-to-be Sara Yardley called for a curry – and got one of the first deliveries of 2022.
Daughter Elleanor-Rae arrived yesterday at 12.09am.
Weighing in at 7lb 14oz she was born at University Hospital Wishaw to mum Sara, 23, and dad Darren, 34, and is a baby sister for brother Jaxon, three.
Her parents met at award-winning East Kilbride restaurant Auld Raes – which helped inspire their girl’s name.
Proud mum Sara, from Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, said: “She was due on Christmas Day but never appeared.
“We were due to be induced next week so were just planning on having a quiet Hogmanay.
“We had called for a curry takeaway about 6pm. I had just sat down to eat my korma when I started getting contractions.
“I had heard curries can bring on labour but I didn’t think it would work that quickly.”
The family got out of the NHS Lanarkshire hospital just hours after the birth and were already home yesterday afternoon.
Darren added: “She’s named after both our grans – Elleanor and Rae. I named my restaurant after my gran and that’s where we met, so its got a nice meaning behind it. We couldn’t be happier for our wee family.”
Others also got the year off to a special start. Nicola McCann and her partner Jamie Black became parents to son Aiden, who was born on the stroke of midnight at Glasgow’s Princess Royal Maternity Hospital.
Another boy was born at the same hospital less than 20 minutes later, to parents Halie Chrisman and Kunwoo Kim.
Henry was delivered at 19 minutes past midnight, weighing 7lb.
At St John’s Hospital in Livingston, the first arrival of 2022 came at 2.34am, as baby Harper was delivered weighing 5lb 14oz to local parents Courtney Forrest and Ross Houston.
Meanwhile, University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock welcomed their first 2022 baby at 6.11am. Max, who weighed 8lb 14oz, was born to Lisa and Alan McConville, from nearby Symington.
