Scots motorist airlifted to hospital after horror A96 smash in Aberdeenshire which left second person hurt

A motorist has been airlifted to hospital for treatment after a two car crash in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A96 near Colpy at around 7.24am on Wednesday, April 28.

Officers were forced to close both the north and southbound carriageway while fire crews helped free the stricken travellers from their vehicles.

An air ambulance was also called to the scene and took one person to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A second person was also injured and taken to the same medical facility by road ambulance.

The road was cleared and re-opened shortly before 10am

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 07:25 to attend a two car collision on the A96 near the A920 junction and two ambulances and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

“One patient was conveyed to Aberdeen Royal infirmary by helicopter and another patient was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance.”

A Police Scotland spokesman added: “Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic crash on the A96 road near Colpy at around 7.24am this morning.

“Two people have been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a result. The road was closed at the scene however is now fully open.”
