Chris Bungard has tipped Conor McGregor to make a triumphant return to the Octagon after announcing his comeback date.
McGregor yesterday announced his return date would be on January 18 in Las Vegas – but did not yet state who his opponent would be.
Bungard, who has been involved with several training camps alongside the Irishman, praised the former featherweight and lightweight champion and the influence his return would have on the mixed-martial arts world.
'The Bad Guy' expected him to fight at lightweight - and named potential opponents for his pal.
The 30-year-old said: “I’m always going to be a big fan of Conor and when he starts talking about fights again people take notice.
“It’s impossible not to take notice of what he has done for this sport and the eyes he has brought onto the mixed-martial arts world.
“Now that he is saying January I could see him fighting a Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone or Frankie Edgar, someone like that.
“It’s going to get a lot of attention which If he is back to his best then there is no reason that he won’t go and get the win there."
He went on: “When Conor walks into a room all the attention is on him, it’s the same with the Octagon. He is just that kind of guy.
“It’s good for all of us that get in the cage or Bellator when Conor is back fighting.”
