A top martial arts fighter threatened to make her ex-partner’s “life hell” following their messy break-up.
Shannon Troupe, 21, who fights for Scotland in MMA bouts, left Aimee Morrison so scared she refused work as a delivery driver without her brother travelling in the same car.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard Troupe, a former prison officer, and Ms Morrison from Barrhead, had been in an “on-off” relationship for more than a year.
However on the day of their break-up Troupe fired off texts and emails but then made a threatening call which left Ms Morrison in a state of fear and alarm.
Procurator fiscal depute Kirsten Brierley said: “They had been in a relationship which ended in August 2020, however, the relationship was re-entered into in an on-off basis, when witness Morrison ended things on February 2, this year.
“On that date she was in her car working as a delivery driver with her brother who was accompanying her due to her feeling unsafe.
“She had received a number of texts and emails from the accused.
“While in the car Ms Morrison received a phone call, which she placed on speaker phone, so her brother and her both could listen to the conversation.
“The accused said, ‘I am going to your work.’ ‘I will make your life hell until you speak to me.’”
Ms Morrison reported the threat to cops who traced and arrested Troupe, who was cautioned and charged, but made no reply to officers.
Yesterday Troupe from Sighthill, Edinburgh, appeared in the dock before Sheriff Suhkwinder Gill where she pleaded guilty to a charge of sending a message to her ex-partner which was offensive, indecent or menacing in character, which placed her in a state of fear and alarm.
Her defence agent said his client subsequently lost her employment with the prison service because of the domestically aggravated charge involving her ex-partner.
He added she is a first offender who regrets her actions and urged the court to show her leniency.
He said: “She has found the experience extremely stressful.
“She was working as a prison officer but had to give that up as a result due to the domestic nature of these matters.
“She is a qualified sports nutritionist and in her spare time she trains in mixed martial arts, which she undertakes at a very high level.
“She has represented Scotland at international competitions.
“My client has taken responsibility for this offence and the relationship was not a particularly calm one.
“That relationship is very much at an end.”
Sheriff Gill told her: “You are a young woman of 21 and now have a conviction with a domestic aggravation.
“This is because you called your ex-partner on the day she broke up with you.
“Emotions were running high and you made a comment in the heat of the moment.
“But given the nature of the charge, I am going to draw a line under the matter.”
She fined her £340 and placed her under a Non Harrassment Order barring all contact with Ms Morrison for two years.
