Scots mental health nurse banned from roads over dangerous driving rampage

A mental health nurse was caught on camera smashing into a parked car during a dangerous driving rampage.

Michael Donnelly drove on the wrong side of the road, towards oncoming traffic, veered across lanes and mounted the kerb at speed.

Donnelly, whose driving was so bad other motorists had to swerve out of his way to avoid a crash, smashed into the parked car in Renfrew, near Glasgow, just after 1am.

The owner of the car later spotted the damage and it emerged the crash had been captured on a neighbour's CCTV camera.

He found Donnelly's white Vauxhall Astra parked outside a property with the window down.

When officers arrived at the house on August 22, they found Donnelly inside.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Donnelly was "unsteady on his feet and slurring his words".

His partner told police Donnelly had been drinking and was the driving at the time of the crash.

But he refused to provide a breath sample when arrested and taken to the police station.

Donnelly pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and failing to provide breath samples.

Sheriff Bruce Erroch QC deferred sentencing for background reports.

Donnelly was banned from driving and ordained to appear in court next month.
