Scots MasterChef contestant knocked out at the final hurdle

Lanarkshire MasterChef star Laura Michael was knocked out of the famed TV competition last night.

The 46-year-old narrowly misses out on tonight’s grand final after undercooking her lamb cutlets in the four-contestant showdown.

Judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode both said one of her cutlets was fine, but the other they would have sent back to the kitchen for being undercooked.

It means the Carluke mum misses out in tonight’s 8.30pm finale and a chance to win the highly-coveted Masterchef crown.

The penultimate stage was fiercely contested by fellow finalists Alexina, Mike and Tom whose dishes earned them their place.

They then went on to cook for the chef's table at the renowned and decorated, La Gavroche restaurant in London. There their efforts were overseen by culinary hero, Michel Roux Jr.

Having impressed there, the trio will now cook a three-course meal for Gregg and John in a bid to take the top prize.

But Laura’s progress has made Lanarkshire proud after continuing to wow the judges throughout the series - notably for her take on crispy duck - her kids’ favourite takeaway.

That saw her serve up a succulent duck’s breast on pea puree, with crispy duck sesame toast and shredded duck.

And she did all that having survived a fairly serious cut to her finger during preparation.

Her duck breast, pink and juicy with crispy skin, was praised by the diners with judge and presenter Gregg saying it was “buttery melt in the mouth”.
