Scots marital arts rapist claimed taking steroids made 'it hard to have sex'

A rapist who claimed taking steroids made it difficult to have sex has been jailed for seven years.

Martial arts fan Steven Ordish preyed on two women between 2013 and 2018 in Clydebank as well as Balloch, both West Dunbartonshire.

The 42 year-old was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier been convicted of raping both women.

Ordish, also of Clydebank, had been found guilty of four charges in October.

He had originally stood trial in February this year before the case was halted.

Jurors heard how he had met the first victim - a 36 year-old woman - on a dating site.

Ex-taxi driver Ordish denied having a sexual relationship with her.

He told his original trial: "I was working two jobs and organising things as well as doing Thai boxing at the time.

“I found it hard to (have sex) as I was taking steroids. I was also under pressure at my job.”

Ordish said the steroids had been bought online.

He also denied raping a 30 year-old woman insisting anything that happened was consensual.

His lawyer Louise Arrol put to him at the time: “She says that you had sex with her while she was sleep.”

Ordish replied: “That is incorrect.”

He claimed to be unaware of any rape allegation until quizzed by police.

Miss Arrol today said: "He maintains his position of denial."

Sentencing, Lord Matthews also put Ordish on the sex offenders list indefinitely.

The judge told him: "You know what you have been convicted of and the attitude the courts take to it."
