Scots man rushed to hospital after hit and run horror on busy road as police probe launched

A man is being treated in hospital after being knocked down in a horror hit and run collision in Midlothian.

The 55-year-old pedestrian was hit by a silver-coloured VW vehicle at around 2.45pm on Tuesday January 19 on the A701.

The incident, which took place near Gowkley Moss roundabout, has sparked a police probe after the driver of the vehicle failed to stop.

The victim suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Officers are appealing for motorists who may have dash cam footage in the area at the time to come forward.

Constable Kevin Liddell of Dalkeith Road Policing said: “We are appealing for the assistance of the public to trace the vehicle involved.

“I would ask if you were in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the collision that you get in contact with officers.

“I would also appeal to anyone who has any dashcam or mobile phone footage that could assist with our investigation.

“Police can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting incident number 1700 of Tuesday, 19 January, 2021.”
