Scots man arrested after 'paedophile hunters sting and protest' outside address

A Scots man has been arrested after a vigilante paedophile hunting group protested outside a house in Renfrew.

The group posted a video online of "hunters" confronting a 46-year-old man the address for being an alleged paedophile.

Cops confirmed they attended a property on Tennant Street on Sunday morning and made an arrest.

The man, who we cannot name for legal reasons, was accused by the group of speaking to what he believed was three 14-year-old girls for around one year.

Group members act as decoys and pretend to be young children so they can catch paedophiles online.

All of the conversations are recorded and then passed to police.

The group live streamed the confrontation and can be heard telling the man to come to the door before they tell his neighbours "what he's been doing".

They ask him to come outside so they can discuss his "online activities".

A group member shows the man pictures of the teenage girls he is accused of speaking to and asks if he recognises them.

The man claims never to have seen them before.

Other accusations made by the group include the man sending explicit sexual videos to the decoys he was speaking to.

The online video goes on for 24 minutes and has over 1,000 comments.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers attended at an address in Tennant Street in Renfrew on Sunday, 7 March, 2021, where they arrested a 46-year-old man. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Cops were then called out to the same property the next day due to protestors gathering outside the mans home.

On this incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7pm on Monday, 8 March, officers were called to the Tennant Street area of Renfrew following a report of a disturbance involving a number of people.

"Officers attended and engaged with those present, who were then dispersed.”
