Scots make-up artist shows how to create spine-chilling Halloween looks at home

A Scottish make-up artist has revealed how to create incredible spooky Halloween looks at home.

Instagram star Ellie Hand-McCready, from Dunbar, has built a following with her ghoulish tutorials and transformations which rack up thousands of views on social media.

With millions told to stay home this Halloween due to the pandemic, the 22-year-old has teamed up with Samsung to guide you through some spine-chilling make-up looks.

In the tutorial clip, Ellie used make-up and body paint to create a jaw-dropping skeleton illusion for the terrifying fright-night look.

The social media sensation started experimenting with spooky make-up for her school Halloween disco and has dreams of working in special effects for TV and film.

It comes as a recent study by Samsung revealed that 56% of Scots believe Halloween is on par with Christmas as the highlight of the year - and spend on average £142 on the celebration.

In fact, more than half of all Scots think Halloween is more fun than Christmas and put more effort into decorating the house for the spooky holiday.

Despite Government restrictions, more than half of Scots polled said they will still be dressing up at home.

This year, 40% of Scots said they are drawing inspiration from hit Netflix show Tiger King for their Halloween costume – famed for its stars Joe Exotic and Carol Baskin.

Popular shows and films such as The Joker, Killing Eve and Doctor Who were also cited as inspiration for outfits this year.

The results suggest that over half of those surveyed will be finding new ways to celebrate Halloween this year, such as hosting virtual parties online.

Some 70% of Scottish adults said Zoom video calls will be integral to their Halloween plans, allowing them to connect virtually with their nearest and dearest.

Two thirds of Scottish parents surveyed said they are planning on going all out at home this year to keep their children happy.

Top home Halloween activities planned by families include movie nights, family fancy dress, creating spooky Halloween-themed food and carving pumpkins.
