Scots make-up artist goes viral after using crackers and onions as brushes

A budding make-up artist from Glasgow has gone viral for putting her face on with unusual objects – such as a cracker, onion and laptop.

Tilly Mckechnie decided to try unique ways to apply make-up after she became bored during lockdown.

The 20-year-old posted a TikTok of herself using a stale cracker as a brush which gained over 1.6million views.

This led to fans asking her to paint her face with other wacky items and she ended up applying make-up with bizarre tools including a laptop and her own hair.

Stirling University student Tilly said: “I was in between studying and I needed to take a break and find something irrelevant to my work to take my mind off things.

“I sat at my desk and had a packet of crackers there.

"The top one was stale, so I wouldn’t eat it anyway and I thought it would be quite funny to do my make-up with it.

"I made the video but sat on it for a while. A few weeks later, I decided I wanted to post on TikTok and came across it in my drafts.

“I didn’t even look at my TikTok but when I logged back on I had so many notifications, it went wild.”

Users loved it and suggested other items for the Glaswegian to experiment with.

Tilly continued to experiment with an egg, a laptop, an onion, and her own hair.

She added: “The items work well for different things.

“The laptop was good for eyeliner, as was the onion.

“The egg was good for blending my concealer, although I had to be more gentle than I usually would with a blender as I was worried it would smash and go everywhere.”

Tilly vows to continue with her series as long as fans keep suggesting wacky items to use.

She said: “When people react well to them, it’s like they’re reacting to me, which is a huge compliment.”
