Scots Lout high on cocaine booted down own front door after being locked out by girlfriend over drug binges

A raging boyfriend tried to kick down his own front door after his partner chucked him out over his drink and drugs binges.

Rian Patterson, 23, lost the plot when girlfriend Lauren Smith sent him packing from their home in Erskine because she didn’t want to leave him in there on his own.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Patterson forgot his jacket, which had his money in it, and couldn’t get back in to the property in Sempill Avenue, on Saturday, June 5. He then began booting down the door.

Procurator fiscal depute Sean Docherty said the couple started arguing amid Ms Smith’s concerns that Patterson was drinking too much and taking drugs.

Mr Docherty said: “The witness told him she was going out and didn’t want him within the property when she was out.

“He left willingly. However, a short time later, she called on her mobile phone to check where he was, when he told her he was back at the front door.

“He stated he wanted his possessions. The witness refused to return to the house. An argument ensued.

“He told her he would ‘kick her door in’ if she didn’t come back.

“She told Patterson she would call police. He replied, ‘Go for it’.”

The court heard Ms Smith was left feeling scared and phoned her neighbour, who confirmed hearing three “loud bangs” coming from the house where Patteron was at the front door.

She called the cops, who found her door frame had been “partially shattered”, with her main lock and door handle hanging off.

Patterson later told cops: “I have taken some coke,” and admitted “I’ve kicked Lauren’s door, but I needed my jacket.”

Patterson, now living at Maple Drive, Johnstone, pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering threats.

He also admitted a charge of wilfully or recklessly destroying property by kicking the front door.

Defence agent Bob Kerr said his client was admitting responsibility for the disturbance “at the earliest opportunity”.

He added that his client was remorseful and that he and Ms Smith are engaged to be married.

He said Ms Smith was also concerned about Patterson’s drinking and taking drugs, and wanted him to address these difficulties.

He highlighted that Patterson had gone to Renfrewshire Drugs Services to seek help.

Sheriff Tom McCartney told him: “You have pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and the incident did not involve personal violence.

“I will consider the matter while the court seeks a report.”

Patterson will discover his fate on July 26.
