Scots lotto winner Gillian Bayford back in court accused of battering ex-lover

Mobile phone and I.T experts have been called in to the domestic abuse trial of megabucks lottery winner Gillian Bayford.

The 47-year-old multi millionaire is accused of attacking ex lover Gavin Innes in 2017 by striking him repeatedly on the head and neck.

She was due to stand trial in September but the case has now been delayed until December.

It’s the second time it’s been postponed - earlier this month, Bayford’s defence had asked for a trial date to be set after her children had returned to boarding school.

At Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday (TUE) Fiscal, Gavin Burton, said: “I understand there is certain mobile phone evidence to be investigated by the defence.

“The Crown have the mobile phone of the accused and that will therefore be required to be released to the defence expert. I understand that is likely to take some time.”

She faces a single charge of domestic assault which alleges that on three occasions between August 1st 2017 and October 31st 2017, she assaulted her ex-partner Innes at two separate addresses in Tayside and repeatedly struck and punched him on the head and neck to his injury.

The charge adds: “It will be proved in terms of Section 1 of the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm (Scotland) Act 2016 that the aforesaid offence was aggravated by involving abuse of your partner or ex-partner”.

Bayford, from Broughty Ferry, Dundee , shared a record-breaking £148million EuroMillions win with her former husband Adrian in August 2012. The couple separated 15 months later after nine years of marriage.

The former hospital cleaner, who had been living with Adrian in Haverhill, Suffolk, returned to her native Scotland with the couple’s two children.

She launched a property business based in Carnoustie, Angus, spent millions buying homes to rent out, and bought a cafe, “Sugar and Spice”, in Arbroath which later closed.

Innes and Bayford went to school together and started their relationship after he approached her to help with a domestic abuse charity he’d launched.

After the pair split, Bayford married Brian Deans, 38, near St Andrews, in August last year, six years to the day after landing her lottery jackpot.

Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC ordained Bayford to attend an intermediate diet in November and set a trial date in December.
