Scots lottery winners who scooped £161m jackpot to divorce after 38-year marriage

Lotto winners Colin and Christine Weir have announced they are to divorce - eight years after winning £161million.

Pals said Colin, 71, and Christine, 62, confirmed they had been living apart “for some time” and that their 38-year marriage was coming to an end amicably.

The couple, from Troon , Ayrshire, became the winners of Britain’s biggest ever lottery prize in 2011.

Retired STV cameraman Colin and former psychiatric nurse Chris, who have two grown-up kids, donated £3.5million to the Yes Scotland campaign ahead of the 2014 referendum and handed over £4.5million to the SNP.

The couple also ploughed money into Patrick Thistle Football Club, as well as splashing out on a string of luxury properties.

In 2013 they set up The Weir Charitable Trust to help fund health, sport, cultural, recreational and animal welfare projects.

A statement read: “It is with deep regret that Chris and Colin confirm they have been living apart for some time and intend to divorce amicably.

“There will be no further comment.”
