Scots lottery syndicate stunned by huge EuroMillions win

A Scottish lottery syndicate were stunned when their local shop couldn't cash their winning lottery ticket, as it was worth nearly £100,000.

The 14-person syndicate, made up of staff at Ross-shire Engineering in the Highlands, won a total of £99,307.90.

They've been buying lottery tickets for the past 15 years and will each will take home over £7,000 after matching the five main numbers and one Lucky Star number in the draw.

Eileen Logan, the only woman in the Euromillions syndicate, told the Daily Record how the shop they usually visit  couldn't pay out the winnings.

Jane Park says 100,000 men have applied to be her boyfriend after £60K offer

She said: "The shop assistant handed back our ticket saying it was too big to pay out."

As they toasted their success at their local, the Ord Arms Hotel, Eileen relived the moment it sunk in.

She said: "We’ve had our syndicate since about 2004 and I normally pop to our local Co-op every Thursday to check tickets and put new ones on.

"My most recent visit was really unexpected – especially when the shop assistant handed me back our winning ticket saying it was too big."

Eileen added: "I took it home and immediately checked the numbers against The National Lottery website.

"I must have sat staring at the screen for ages before it sunk in.

"I then called Camelot who confirmed we had a winning ticket. I was just delighted.

"The guys were all so excited when I told them and everyone is very happy for us.

"Our boss is very pleased – although he said he was glad it wasn’t a bigger amount as he would be losing a lot of his workforce."

Most of the syndicate are already eyeing up exotic holidays, although one fancies a new motorbike.

Eileen’s lucky colleagues are Graeme Sutherland, 37, William Weatherall, 55, John Finlayson, 63, Ian Beaton, 58, Duncan Maclennan, 60, William MacPherson, 44, William Morrison, 57, George MacLeman, 65, Ian Ross, 59, John Bisset, 47, and Jack Shepherd, 57, Andrew MacDonald, 58, and Douglas Kelly, 73.

Their winning numbers were 4, 17, 26, 30, 43 and Lucky Star 6.
