Scots lorry driver comes to aid of man in wheelchair during icy conditions

A kind-hearted Scots HGV driver was captured stopping traffic to help a man in a wheelchair across the road during icy conditions.

The man, driving a Midlothian Skip Hire lorry, stopped at the side of the road in the centre of Loanhead in Midlothian on Thursday.

The driver noticed a disabled man approaching a crossing on an icy, downhill section of the pavement, and clearly feared for his safety, reports Edinburgh Live.

The sub-zero temperatures prompted the Good Samaritan to get out of his cab and wheel the gentleman across the road safely - with one motorist capturing the heart-warming moment on video.

In the clip, both edges of the downhill pavement can be seen with a covering of snow, a clear hazard for a wheelchair user.

Police have put warnings in place across large parts of Scotland as the wintry weather continues, with Traffic Scotland and the Met Office also advising caution from motorists and pedestrians.
