Scots lockdown kids meet up for rough and tumble to celebrate end of restrictions

Lockdown kids across Scotland yesterday met up for rough and tumble play for the first time in months as restrictions were eased.

Under 12s can now meet up with no social distancing – meaning they can hug, wrestle and bump into each other once again.

Brothers Harry, eight, and Charlie, five, finally met up with big cousin Alex, 11, when the Turpie family were reunited. And they lost no time in having some fun and planning a few more capers.

Charlie broke his leg in a trampoline park accident just before lockdown began and spent six weeks in a cast.

It meant he could not get the blue-and-white trainers – in the colours of his favourite football team, Kilmarnock – he had his eye on but now he’s sporting the prized footwear.

Charlie’s dad Wallace, a North Ayrshire Council operations manager, said: ”Like all parents, we have seen how difficult lockdown has
been for the kids but they have coped really well.

“Charlie is over the moon about his new trainers – even though it was June 29 before he finally got his hands on them.

“The kids were missing everybody. We got them to do some Zoom calls about five or six weeks into lockdown but, kids being kids, they want to be out to see everybody.”

Mum Dawn, an NHS pharmacist, said: “They definitely missed everybody. They’ve not seen anybody and, like all kids across the country, it’s had a big impact.

“We were hoping they could meet outside but it’s absolutely pouring down.

“But it’s great to see them back together and able to do the things that kids do.”
