Scots Line of Duty fans call out Martin Compston for 'Glasgow coroner' blunder

Fans are going wild for the penultimate episode of Line Of Duty as the latest season prepares to come to a close.

The Sunday edition of the AC12-centred anticorruption police drama had us on the edge of our seats as always, with viewers hailing Kelly Macdonald's "incredible" performance.

But there was one slight hiccup eagle-eyed fans noticed during an intense interview scene in the hit BBC TV show.

The latest blunder saw Scotsman Martin Compston make two major mistakes about what happens in his native land during Sunday night's record-long interrogation of Acting Detective Superintendent Jo Davidson.

Playing DI Steve Arnott, Greenock-born Compston said a death certificate for Jo's mum, Samantha Davidson, had been completed by 'The Glasgow City Coroner', however that post does not exist.

He followed that up, saying a subsequent 'Inquest' had recorded a finding of suicide but again, no inquests are held in Scotland.

In Scotland, the Lord Advocate is responsible for investigating "all deaths which require further explanation." Helping him out is a team of procurators fiscal.

And helping them out is the SFIU - The Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit.

It can lead to an investigatory hearing, but in Scotland it's called a Fatal Accident Inquiry, or FAI.

Martin's fellow Scots were quick to call him out for the blunder.

One said: "How could someone who is Scottish speak the line "Glasgow City Coroner". Utter bollocks. Scotland doesn't have coroners, it's the Crown Office that deal with Fatalities in Scotland, and there's me thinking #LineofDuty6 was factually accurate."

Another added: "A report about Martin Compston using the term 'Glasgow coroner' has been sent to the procurator fiscal."

Someone else questioned: "Hey @martin_compston. What is this 'Glasgow City Coroner' you speak of? Never heard of such a thing."

And another quipped: " @martin_compston Glasgow doesn't have a coroner - that's English only #lineofduty#attentiontodetail "

There was a lot to unpack from last night's show but another thing that really stood out to viewers was Glasgow's very own Kelly Macdonald's performance despite her lack of dialogue. We'll make no comment on the matter ...

Here's a snapshot of how Glasgow Twitter reacted to the latest LOD episode, from Martin Compston's blunder to Kelly Macdonald's performance and THAT one-liner from Ted Hastings ...

And the award for the best one-liner of the series goes to ...

The series will conclude next Sunday with its final episode of the ongoing series - and people just cannot wait.

The identity of H is yet to be revealed, and viewers will also see the fallout from the killing of Ryan Pilkington.

Jo Davidson is now in prison - will she make it out alive? And what will become of Steve's medical? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section!

Line of Duty continues on BBC One.
